Truly inclusive classrooms are built one micro-moment at a time. The greeting at the door. The choice of partner during group work. The way a teacher responds when a child needs a break. These moments tell every student whether they belong.
Start with language. Replace "What's wrong with him?" with "What does he need right now?" That single question reframes behavior as communication, not defiance — and it travels through a school faster than any policy memo.
Build flexibility into the environment. Fidget tools available to everyone. Quiet corners that don't require permission. Visual schedules posted at child height. When supports are universal, no child has to ask to be different.
Most of all, partner with families early and often. The parents in your classroom community are not problems to be managed — they are the most informed members of your team. A short weekly note home is worth a hundred crisis meetings later.
